Inaugural Episode of Video Series Shows How to Shut Off Water Valve

As we begin to thaw from the freeze of the past few days, it is important for residents to know where their water shut-off valve is located. This will allow a homeowner that has a leak in their pipe to quickly turn off the water to their home and call a plumber to diagnose and fix the issue. In most homes, the valve is located at the corner of the property. There will be two meter boxes, the one located near the street belongs to the water provider. The one closest to the house belongs to the homeowner. Remove the lid of the meter box closest to the house and you will see the water cut off valve and the pressure reducing valve. To shut off the water simply reach into the box and turn the handle of the shut off valve clockwise so that it is perpendicular to the pipe. The homeowner can then call a plumber to fix the leaking pipe. WCID No. 17 General Manager Jason Homan shows us how to quickly locate and turn off the shut off valve in our new video series Water Wise (at mark 1:40). Please CLICK HERE to view.
