RR620 Waterline Relocation Fee

Posted by on Friday, October 5th, 2018 in Hot Topics, News

Starting in January 2018 you will see a line item in your monthly bill labeled TXDOT 620 Fee. This fee will be for $5/month and will be charged to each active account in Water District No.17. This fee was enacted by our Board of Directors to offset the construction costs that will be necessary due to the upcoming RR 620 improvements being made by the Texas Department of Transportation (TX DOT).  As you may be aware TX DOT is planning a large construction project along RR 620 from Highway 71 extending north along RR 620 to the RR 2222 interchange. This project will be constructed over a number of years from 2018-2023, with the first portion along the RR 2222 interchange set to begin in 2018.

This project has been estimated to cost the District upwards of $9 million in utility line relocation costs alone. In order to begin preparing for this large expense the District has elected to enact this fee, which combined with savings from our Operations and Maintenance budget will allow the District to pay for these construction costs without requesting a Bond be issued. This small upfront cost to the customer combined with the District setting aside matching funds from our budget will allow a significant long term savings of an estimated $5.2 million.

Should you have any questions or be interested in a more detailed explanation of the anticipated work, the District will be hosting a Town Hall event on December 7th at 6:00 p.m. at our District office, 3812 Eck Lane. The District Engineer, I and members of our Board will provide a briefing on the anticipated work, timeline and costs. Following which we will all be available to answer questions or take feedback. If you have any question in the meantime please do not hesitate to reach out. I can be contacted at jhoman@wcid17.org  or (512) 266-1111 extension 113.
