Sprinkler Sytems
New irrigation systems inspection requirements went into effect on December 1, 2005.
General Project Requirements
These requirements are not all inclusive. Please refer to the Uniform Plumbing Code, 2000 Edition or, for Lakeway, the 2000 International Residential Code and local amendments.
- Determine the number of sprinkler heads and the gallon per minute demand for each zone. Your irrigator can do this for you. Have your plans checked by the person who will have to inspect your system to ensure the size of the line is adequate to support proper flow.
- An approved high hazard backflow prevention device or RPZ is required to be installed in a separate box upstream of the first set of valves, preferably in the vicinity of the meter box. Backflow preventors shall be installed with test ports up and capped. Please leave the device uncovered until you receive a passed inspection and the test results are recorded.
- The backflow device must be tested by a certified backflow device tester and the results provided to the District office within seven (7) calendar days of the date of the test. These devices are required to be re-tested annually with results submitted to the District.
- The connection of the irrigation system to the potable water source will be left exposed until the system passes inspection. Only acceptable connecting devices will be used to connect to the potable water source.
- Inspections required:
- 1 Backflow Device Test Report
- 1 Irrigation Final
Permit fee $50.00
2 inspections @ $35.00 each
Total $130.00 (Does not include backflow test report.)
