Colorado River Environmental Model

A study has been finalized using the watershed and lake water quality models developed for Lake Travis, Colorado River Environmental Models Phase 2:  Lake Travis Final Report (Anchor QEA and Parsons 2009), "CREMs project."  "The goal was to investigate the sensitivity of water quality in the lake to various potential changes in the Lake Travis watershed...the increase of point source discharged; the increase of urbanization in subbasins undergoing potential development; and the increaase of nutrient and organic loadings at the upstream boundary of Lake Travis.  Please use this link to read more and learn -  http://www.lcra.org/library/media/public/docs/water_WQ_LakeTravisFutureScenarios.pdf

Please "Dial it Down!" - Some may ask, "does my lawn need watering over the winter?"  Yes, some, but not nearly as much as in the summer months. Evaporation rates are much lower in winter and grass is dormant, so you can set your irrigation system to water only twice a month OR LESS. If you know rain is coming, shut your system off completely or make sure your rain sensor prevents the system from operating.

Commercial and multifamily customers and HOAs:

  • All addresses water Tuesdays and Fridays.

Commercial, HOA, and Multifamily customers must adhere to the schedule year round.

School campuses will have specially designed watering schedules which will allow for watering different fields on different days, and the new ordinance also allows for variances and exceptions for customers with special situations such as large properties, or new lawns.  Customers who have installed special water conserving irrigation systems, for example, will be granted variances to allow the systems to operate as they were designed. Systems using reclaimed or recycled water will not be subject to the restrictions.

The time of day customers may water.  To reduce wasting water through evaporation during daytime heat, watering with an automatic irrigation system is permitted between midnight and 10am or between 7pm and midnight of the customers watering day.  Watering with a hand held hose or bucket may be done any time of day or any day of the week.  Other water uses such as washing cars or boats is not restricted to watering days unless increased conservation measures become necessary.

See the frequently asked questions on the new watering schedule if you need some clarification.

Trash & Recycling Program - Be Green ~ Save Green

WCID17 has partnered with IESI to offer solid waste (trash) and recycling to District customers.  WCID17 is interested in protecting water quality and the environment, and recycling does both.  This optional program should save customers money, keep materials out of the waste stream which could be recycled, protect the environment and watershed, help consolidate bills and reduce truck traffic in the neighborhoods.  This program currently serves District customers north east of Eck Lane

WCID 17 Landscape Irrigation Policy Adopted

Please review the * new policy and procedures* for installation and repair of irrigation systems that became effective on July 1, 2009 for all WCID17 installations.  As of January 1, 2010, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is enforcing that a licensed irrigation technician and system plans be on-site, during all construction of system, as well as the permit.
