Hazardous Waste
Protecting the source water in Lake Travis is one of the major concerns of the District 17 Board of Directors
and staff. One way to help protect the Lake is to provide a safe and convenient way to dispose of paint, oil,
batteries, pesticides and other harmful chemicals that people use in their daily household activities.
Each year, Water District 17 and many of the surrounding entities sponsor a
Household Hazardous Waste Event
at a central location which provides our customers the opportunity to safely and properly dispose of unused
or unwanted hazardous substances. Thousands of pounds of hazardous waste is collected every year, and it is
the only service of its kind in the Lake Travis area.
